Their presentation is titled “Evolving Issues for Employers: Recent Developments in Cannabis Law and Form I-9 Immigration Compliance.”
Aaron C. Schlesinger will discuss the constantly evolving employment law issues surrounding cannabis use for medical and recreational purposes. Mr. Schlesinger will outline the interplay between federal and state laws regarding marijuana and explain how employers can keep the workplace free of drug use while avoiding litigation over allegedly discriminatory behavior toward cannabis users.
Michael J. Schewe will discuss the substantial uptick in worksite investigations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”), and the steps that employers can take to protect themselves from liability for Form I-9 processing and record keeping violations. Mr. Schewe will include an overview of the Homeland Security Investigations (“HSI”) audit process, so employers can know what to expect when the government comes calling.
Their presentation will take place on Friday, July 19 from 10:20 am – 12 pm. The CICPAC’s 28th Annual Construction Industry CPA Conference will take place from July 17 – 19 at the JW Marriott in Chicago, IL.
