Attorneys Stewart Shurtleff, Jackson Mabry, and Cornelius “Lee” Banta, Jr. Join National Construction Law Firm Peckar & Abramson in the Firm’s Dallas and Houston Offices

Peckar & Abramson, P.C. is pleased to announce that Texas Board Certified construction attorney Stewart Shurtleff has joined the firm as Partner in the firm’s Dallas office and attorneys Jackson Mabry and Cornelius “Lee” Banta, Jr. have joined as Associates in P&A’s Dallas and Houston offices, respectively.
Firm Chairman, Steven M. Charney, welcomed the three attorneys to Peckar & Abramson, saying, “The additions of Stewart, Jackson and Lee further demonstrate the firm’s commitment to the construction and infrastructure industry across the state of Texas”. Charney continued, “we are pleased to welcome these talented lawyers who throughout their careers have demonstrated excellence in construction law and top-tier client service”.
Mr. Shurtleff represents general contractors, subcontractors, sureties, and real estate owners and developers in a wide array of construction-related issues, including breach of contract, breach of warranty, mechanic’s liens, bond claims, surety matters, collections, construction defects, contract termination, and delay and disruption claims, as well as general business matters. Mr. Shurtleff frequently acts as outside general counsel to general contractors and other clients.
Mr. Shurtleff most recently served as a member of the Board of Directors of TEXO, the largest commercial contractor’s association in Texas representing the North and East Texas chapters of both The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). He is also a Fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America and is the 2019 Secretary of the Construction Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association where he is an active member. Mr. Shurtleff has been named a Super Lawyers ‘Texas Rising Star’ from 2012-2018 and in 2016, he was named TEXO Young Constructor of the Year resulting from his extensive work with the TEXO Young Constructors Council, where he served as a steering committee member for five years and the Chairman in 2015.
Mr. Shurtleff is admitted to practice in Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Computer Information Systems Management, Cum Laude, from Houston Baptist University and a Juris Doctor degree from Baylor University School of Law.
Jackson Mabry has joined the firm’s Dallas offce as an Associate. He has experience in commercial and civil litigation across the state of Texas and has represented clients in state and federal courts. Mr. Mabry holds a J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in Classics and Politics from Washington & Lee University. In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Mabry places an emphasis on community involvement. He is an active member of the Providence Christian School of Texas Alumni Board, Advocates for Community Transformation (ACT), Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, and Texas Young Lawyers Association.
Cornelius “Lee” Banta, Jr. has joined the firm’s Houston offce as an Associate. Mr. Banta’s practice focuses on construction litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He has experience with construction defect litigation, lien and bond claim disputes, and general commercial matters. He has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors, and materialmen in litigation matters, and has negotiated favorable settlements for his clients. Mr. Banta earned his J.D. at The University of Houston Law Center and his B.A. in History from Amherst
College.
