Ralf R. Rodriguez, a partner in the firm’s Miami office authored a bylined article for the Daily Business Review entitled “ New Law Protects Against Unscrupulous Contractors, Beefs Up Anti-Corruption Laws”, published on May 3, 2016. The article discusses Florida’s anti-corruption bill HB 7071 that Governor Rick Scott signed into law on March 25, 2016. The bill makes it easier for prosecutors to prosecute cases alleging bribery, bid rigging and official misconduct. The anti-corruption bill amends portions of Chapter 838, Fla. Stats., including broadening coverage under the law to include employees and officers of companies that pay bribes or offer rewards to any city, county or state official in exchange for a government contract or procuring government business. The new legislative changes go into effect on October 1, 2016.
